COVINGTON - Ten people from four different states in town for a Phish concert were arrested early Monday when Covington police found drugs in their hotel room.

The people, ranging in age from 22 to 32, were discovered in the Radisson Hotel in Covington during a shoplifting investigation, said Covington Police spokesman Spike Jones.

The incident began about 3:50 a.m. when the Speedway Gas Station at 4th and Philadelphia streets reported a girl had tried to buy beer after selling hours, then shoplifted the beer.

The clerk told the woman she could not buy the beer, then he saw her put several Milwaukee's Best Ice beers in her purse. The clerk also noticed she had a Radisson hotel key card in her hand, Jones said.

When police went to the hotel, they found 10 people in the room. Wood ran to the balcony when officers arrived and threw drugs off the balcony, he said. Officers found multiple bags of marijuana and various other unidentified drugs in the room. Because of the quantity of drugs, all those present were charged.

• Shawna Wood, 24, of Deerfield, Ill., was charged with shoplifting, first degree possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and tampering with evidence.

• Dennis Villardos, 32, of Palos Hills, Ill., John Alva, 22, of Portland, Ore., and Eric Vogl, 25, of Sterling Heights, Mich. of were charged with first degree trafficking of cocaine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

• Brian Gillette, 26, of Royal Oak, Mich., was charged with first degree possession of heroin, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

• Tanner Costin, of Illinois, was charged with charged with first degree trafficking cocaine, first degree possession of heroin, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

• Stephen Campbell, 22, of Hinsdale, Ill., and Kyle Macary, 22, of Wheaton, Ill., was charged with first degree possession of a control substance, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

• Sandra Klein, 29, of Winter Springs, Fla., was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.

• Arthur Coutcher, 26, of Portland, Ore., was also arrested, though his charges were not available.

According to a Covington Police overnight watch report, the group was in town for the Phish concert at Riverbend Sunday night. All but Klein and Coutcher were being held Sunday in the Kenton County jail Monday afternoon.
